2024 DCNT Cross-Country Ski Experience

Delta County Non-Motorized Trails (DCNT) is a local, non-profit organization that continues to passionately build a thriving trails community by developing and enhancing trail systems for public use in Delta County, educating trail users and coordinating community events. DCNT presents the 2024 Cross-Country Ski Experience hosted at the Gladstone John & Melissa Besse Sports Park; Sunday, February 4th, 11th and 18th from 12:30pm to 2:30pm.

DETAILS

Learn a low-impact, aerobic winter activity with a friendly atmosphere of the trail community! If you’ve never been cross-country skiing, finding the equipment, figuring out where to go and what to wear can seem intimidating, let alone, how do you actually stand up and safely move on cross-country skis.

The DCNT Cross-Country Ski Experience is a FREE event guided by local cross-country ski enthusiasts. Families, couples or individuals that are beginners or intermediate skiers and are interested in learning the basics of classic cross-country skiing are welcome to attend! The Sports Park offers easy and moderate trails for adult and child beginners and the FREE event is open to all ages. Groups will be organized by age: adult group 15 years and older, ages 10-14, ages 7-9, ages 4-6. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.

Participants are welcome to attend one, two, or all three dates. By the end of the event, you will know the basics of classic cross-country skiing, learn about where to go, trail etiquette and leave feeling prepared to experience the wonders of local U.P. trails with your friends and family!

EQUIPMENT

Kids skis will be available to use for free. Parents or adults that would like to join and don’t own skis are required to bring their own and are encouraged to reach out to the local ski shops to inquire about rentals.

WHAT TO WEAR

Even though it’s cold and snowy outside, you’ll be working up a sweat. So, wear comfortable, synthetic layers you can move easily in. It doesn’t matter what shoes you wear to go skiing – cross-country ski boots come with your rentals and these will enable you to clip into the skis, plus, the equipment is lightweight and easy to use.

REGISTER

We encourage participants to register online prior to the event to ensure youth equipment needs are met. There will be an opportunity to register on the day of, however, we cannot guarantee equipment availability for youth participants. Register down below 👇

VOLUNTEER

We are always looking for passionate and motivated individuals to join DCNT as a member and/or volunteer! Volunteers are the backbone of DCNT! From trail building and maintaining trails, to coordinating community events, to connecting with donors and partners – all of the work is done by volunteers. They bring a fresh perspective and increase the quality of services that DCNT provides.
